Your Voice Your Song Workshop (For Women)

Music, voices, singing…..together. In community, in a way of lifting of each other up like we’ve never felt before. This night is about “why” we sing: The joy, the connection, the playfulness – like swinging on a swing set. We will be led by vocal coaches and soulful musicians Melissa Mulligan, Nicole Thompson and Chelsea Fuller as we circle together and unite our voices. We’ll start with an exploration of how vocalizing in any key (even the “wrong” key) can bring such magic and joy to our lives.

dance

We’ll explore the history of how singing got started with a casual sing along and then we’ll play around with sounds and words, making stuff up as we go.

Who is this workshop for?
Women (18+) who feel an inner craving to find their own voices.
Women who consider themselves to be “non-singers” but find themselves singing alone in the car feeling happy and free.

Women who know they are singers and want to explore the heart of it, the true essence of their gifts.
Women who love music.
Women who need a night out among other bright and brilliant souls (did I mention there will be wine?)…

Together, in harmony, for the pure love of expressing ourselves through music.
You’ll receive links to a few songs beforehand to acquaint yourself with them.

We can’t wait to raise our voices with you.

xoxo,

Melissa, Nicole & Chelsea

HARPER’S STORY
Harper Gruzins is a singer/ songwriter from Coppell, Texas. Last year, at age 11, Harper sang a rendition of the National Anthem for a soccer game in front of 20,000 people. It was not her best performance. Harper had difficulty hearing herself and was a little bit off key due to the loud background noise. The media ignored the young lady’s bravery for being able to sing in front of thousands of people and quickly began scrutinizing her for her poor performance. Harper became the victim of an immense amount of cyber bullying. Through it all, Harper stayed strong. She new that music was her passion and she refused to give up because of one bad performance.

“It wasn’t my best performance because I couldn’t hear myself and the blowhorns got me off key,” Harper told FoxNews.com. “But God allowed this to happen, so I know it’s what he wants. So I wouldn’t change it. Next time I hope there’s no blowhorns.”

Melissa Mulligan is the owner of MMVS, a vocal studio in Fairfield, CT. Melissa discovered Harper’s story and was moved by her passion and determination. Melissa befriended Harper on facebook to offer support and guidance.

“The first time I Skyped with Harper I knew that she was special.” recalls Mulligan.  “Then I talked with her parents for at least an additional half hour and got the chills several times.  I felt like I was meeting friends for life, like this was all meant to be.”

For 6 months, now, Melissa has been doing Skype lessons with Harper, but has yet to meet her in person.

A year after Harper sang the national anthem, she has been cast in the show iShine on the KNECT channel. The show is a high energy variety show just for tweens.  Each episode talks about identity with topics such as faith, parents, modesty and friends.

THANK YOU, FROM MELISSA:

When I shared Harper’s story with the MMVS community, my team became inspired to do everything they could to help fight the bullying epedemic that is plaguing our country. We look forward to helping this organization, bonding with each other and singing for you during our 48 hours on the road!  Thank you for your generosity and for being a part of our amazing journey!

xoxo,

Melissa

At our showcases, artists team up with each other to create original arrangements of popular, familiar, new and original songs.  They write most of their own harmonies, pick their own material and many play their own instruments.  We used to suggest who should team up for these shows, but now we’re finding that artists know who they want to work with and what will make an awesome song choice.  It’s beautiful to watch our community grow closer and wider at the same time.

We’d love for you to join us!  Check out our Programs  here, and if you’d like to set up a complimentary evaluation, tell us a little bit about yourself here: New Students

If you know me, you know that I am passionate about working hard to live the lives of our dreams.  At MMVS we let our passion for singing, songwriting and performing guide us as we develop our craft.  We have a strong, tightly knit community of vocalists and musicians who collaborate with and support each other like none I have seen.   We leave negativity and competitiveness to those who would rather leave their power behind and spend their lives wondering “What if?”   We focus on excellence.  We find success beyond our dreams.  And whoa… we laugh our butts off most of the time, too.

This is our new virtual home, where you can see the programs we offer, meet the coaches and get to know many of the amazing artists we have the pleasure to coach.  If you have comments or suggestions, will you let me know?

And… drumroll… voila!

Here is our new home:
MMVS
53 Unquowa Place, 3rd Floor
Fairfield, CT 06824

We are just steps off the Post Rd and steps from the train station.  Parking is available on the street.  See you there!
