Welcome to Melissa Mulligan Vocal Studio {MMVS}

Welcome!

Melissa Mulligan Vocal Studio, LLC offers voice, songwriting, production, instrumentation, artist development, college prep and career guidance to students of all ages and levels of experience. In addition to working with our talented students in Fairfield, CT, NYC and Los Angeles, MMVS coaches provide Facetime and Skype sessions to many professional and aspiring artists. We offer online and in-person group classes in songwriting, production, and voice. Please visit our Events page to see what we’re up to this season!

Melissa Mulligan has been coaching singers for more than a decade. In that time her students have signed to major record labels, toured the world, earned gold records, scored radio hits, performed on TV shows like “Conan,” “Today,” and “The Voice,” (and music channels like Vh1 and MTV) and entered prestigious music schools such as Berklee College of Music and the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU. A singer/songwriter who took her first voice lesson at the age of nine, Melissa has studied voice her entire life.  Her work as an independent recording artist introduced her to vocal coaches of varying styles and methods in New York, Nashville and LA. This is when Melissa began to form her own ideas about what an individualized program would look like for contemporary professional and aspiring singers. Combining all of the new discoveries in the field of “vocology,” with music theory, performance and audition techniques and creative writing, Melissa and her MMVS coaches create programs for all of their students that meet them where they are today and get them where they’d like to go.  Melissa also runs the Artist Development Program at MMVS for those strongly committed to reaching their musical potential.

Over the last several years, MMVS has become a collective of professional coaches in songwriting, production, piano and guitar. We hope you’ll spend some time here getting to know our amazing team and making your dreams come true.

FAQ
What’s the difference between a General Admission Ticket and a Performer Ticket?
MMVS artists who are performing receive a discount on their tickets as well as assigned, VIP seating at the show. If you are not performing, please order a General Admission Ticket for you and your guests.

Are there assigned seats?
Performers will have assigned seats, but all general admission tickets are open seating.

* If the parking lot to Stage One is full, where do I park?
There is public parking and street parking in downtown Fairfield but be sure to read the signs because the rules vary from spot to spot. I recommend getting to the theatre 15-20 minutes early so you have time to look around if need be.

* What should performers wear?
This is a red carpet celebration so feel free to dress up! If you’re performing with someone else, try to coordinate the same level of “dressy.” If you’re planning to wear heels, practice your performance in them beforehand so there are no surprises on stage 🙂

*What time do we need to get there?
Performers, please arrive by 12pm to get your photo taken, mingle, and find your seat. Guests, please arrive by 12:45 so we can start the show promptly at 1pm.

* Do we have to stay for the whole show?
Yes. Of course. Yes. And you will love every minute of it. These shows are about cultivating a community of talented and passionate musicians who support each other. The point of having you all in one room is to share your work, your creative ideas and your energy with each other. It’s an inspirational day.

* Should I bring my own guitar/keyboard?
No thank you. We will have the stage set up with our instruments and would like you to use those. If you have any questions or concerns about that, let your coach know. You can practice on the same instruments we will be using at the show.

Will performers have time to warm up or run through their performances before the show starts?
Come to the venue at 12pm warmed up and ready to go. Some performers choose to find a corner (or bathroom stall) to do some last minute warm-ups and shake out their nerves. Part of the showcase experience is about learning what works for you and learning what you need to do to feel comfortable and confident. Your coaches will all be there to support you, answer questions and help you feel comfortable. If you are unsure what your pre-show rituals should include, let’s talk about it and come up with a plan during your next lesson.

Welcome to MMVS!

1912097_647927795277669_1149379786_n

Welcome!

Melissa Mulligan Vocal Studio offers private vocal coaching to students of all ages. In addition to working with our talented students in our CT and NYC studios, MMVS coaches provide support to many artists while they are on tour and in recording studios around the country.

Melissa Mulligan has been coaching singers for more than a decade. In that time her students have signed to major record labels, toured the world, performed on TV shows like “Conan” and “The Voice,” and entered prestigious music schools such as Berklee College of Music and the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at NYU. A singer/songwriter who took her first voice lesson at the age of nine, Melissa has studied voice her entire life.  Melissa’s work as an independent recording artist introduced her to vocal coaches of varying styles and methods in New York, Nashville and LA. This is when Melissa began to form her own ideas about what an individualized vocal program would look like for contemporary professional and aspiring singers. Combining the fundamentals of classical technique with elements of “speech level” singing, music theory and creative writing, Melissa creates a vocal program for each of her students that meets them where they are today and helps them get where they’d like to go.  Melissa also runs the Artist Development Program at MMVS for those strongly committed to reaching their musical potential.

Over the last several years, MMVS has become a collective of professional coaches in piano, guitar, songwriting. We hope you’ll spend some time here getting to know our amazing team and making your dreams come true.
